From 1929 to 1953, Stalin was the dictator of U.S.S.R. From bitter poverty, he rose to power in a country that occupied one-sixth of the total land area of the globe. Stalin was a terror ruler for the majority of his time in office. He was strict about censorship and didn’t permit anyone to express his views. Stalin murdered all his supporters, as he believed they would challenge his rule.

Stalin was responsible of millions of Soviet peasants’ deaths. He created the program “Collective Agriculture” (government-controlled farms). Stalin’s orders the Soviet Union was able to operate a global network communist parties. Stalin’s death brought communism to all other countries. His style became known by the name “Stalinism” because it continued to be influential in many other nations. Stalin became a hated figure among the soviet Union’s people, and was fearful for the entire world. He made the Soviet Union a nation that was industrialized and became one of Europe’s most developed nations. It was one of the most powerful military forces in the world. Stalin was an ally during World War II. Hitler betrayed Stalin.

Stalin was born in Gori, Georgia on December 21, 1879. This is near Tbilisi. Stalin was born Losif Vissarionovich Djugshvil. Stalin was adopted by the Stalin family in 1912. This is what means “man made of steel”.

Stalin’s father, Vissarino IIvonovion Dugil, was his name. His occupation was local shoemaker. Stalin’s mother, Ekaterina Gheladze Tjugashvil was a washer. They lived in an old shack. Stalin was the sole child of his parents after his three older siblings died in childbirth. Stalin caught small pox in his six-year-old year, which terrified him for the rest.

Stalin was sent to Gori by his parents in 1888. There he spent five years and became an intelligent child. Stalin was granted a scholarship that allowed him to attend the Tbilisi Religious Seminary. Stalin entered the Georgian Orthodox Church to pursue the priesthood.

Nicholas II was elected Czar after Alexander III, Czar of Russia, died. Alexander ruled over all. He tightly controlled media and education, and prohibited student associations. Nicholas maintained the policies of his father and Russia saw significant economic and social progress. This was a difficult problem to solve. Peasants demanded more land. All the small farms couldn’t produce enough food to feed the millions who would starve. Factory workers saw a decline in their productivity due to the lack of pay and long hours.

Stalin was a member of a secret Marxist revolutionary movement in 1889. Like many schools, Tbilisi’s seminary was a haven for revolutionary ideas. Stalin was fired in May 1899 after he failed to show up for his examination interest. His interest for Marxim may have played a part his expulsion.

Stalin quit the seminary to become a desk clerk. Stalin was an active revolutionary within a year. Stalin organized a small May Day protest near Tbilisi in 1900. The protest was intended to highlight working conditions. In March 1901, Stalin’s residence was invaded by police officers. Stalin was not present so he was able to escape arrest. He quit his job to join the Marxist revolutionary underground organization that was gaining popularity in Russia.

Stalin was hired to write for “The Struggle”, which was a newspaper. Stalin was jailed in 1882 for his revolutionary actions. Stalin was later exiled in Siberia. In January 1904, Stalin fled Siberia. He was able to return to The Bolshevike.

The beginning of World War II saw Germany declare war on Russia in 1914. Russia was in severe distress by the end 1917. Cxar Nicolas II finally gave up his throne on March 15, 1917. Liberals established a temporary government that day. Lenin was a great campaigner and eventually became the Russian dictator.

The Bolsheviks gained the civil war in 1920 and began to rebuild the war’s wreckage. Lenin did not know about Stalin’s secret plan. Stalin’s rise to power was alarming to Lenin by 1922. Lenin wrote to his secretary, requesting that Stalin be expelled from office. Lenin stated that Stalin was too “rude” to be able to affect personal relationships and abuse the power of his office. Stalin was not able to be removed by Lenin because of his illness. Lenin died in 1924.

Although the Bolshevik leaders finally received the warning note against Stalin, they didn’t care. They believed Stalin’s promise to improve his conduct. Stalin built his own power, but he didn’t. This power was cleverly used by Stalin to defeat his enemies.

The party celebrated Stalin’s 50th birthday in December 1929. He became dictator.

Stalin began the first five-year plan for economic development of Russia in 1920. The government started closing private businesses and farm equipment production became more important. Stalin abolished private farming and put all farms, arms and livestock under government control. The USSR’s farmers rebelled and destroyed much of the livestock and produce. Stalin executed many families and sent millions of people into exile as a punishment. Russia was hit hard by the destruction of grain and livestock, causing widespread starvation. Although the economy moved forward, it was at the expense of millions of people’s lives.

Stalin was the terror ruler of U.S.S.R. Stalin created a system in which millions of people were exiled or executed without trial. Stalin also gave many industries to police, who made prisoner work for them. Fear spread across the U.S.S.R when neighbors were forced to spy on one another.

Hitler was ready and willing to overthrow Europe by 1930. The U.S.S.R and Germany signed an agreement on August 23, 1939 to cease all hostilities. The Soviet Union attacked Poland’s eastern half, while Hitler attacked Poland in September 1939. The Soviet Union invaded Finland in 1939 and took most of the country.

Hitler made the decision to attack Soviet Union by December 1940. The Soviet Union was attacked in just two years. Stalin broke the German army’s resolve just before Moscow.

Stalin had plans to replace the top-ten Soviet officials by 1953. It was clear that he was plotting another devastating attack against Germany. On March 4, 1953 the Central Committee of the Communist Party declared that Stalin had suffered an acute brain hemorhage. Stalin was killed in Moscow on March 15, 1953
