Numerous problems were created by the Articles of Confederation. Later, the constitution was written. The Articles of Confederation caused many problems. It also helped run the federal governments.
The Constitution gives the federal government greater powers than the Articles of Confederation. The federal government was given more job titles than the articles. The Articles of Confederation stated that the United States was without a strong federal government. This is because the power was distributed to too many state governments and not enough to federal. In the case of the critical period cartoon for example, congress was at the back and shouted orders. However, the orders were not heard by the states as they each rowed in their own way. It is stated in the Constitution that the Federal Government must have a strong leader to ensure its success. Hamilton explained this in federal papers no.70 as an “Executive character in government definitions.” This was Hamilton’s interpretation of Hamilton’s Articles of Confederation. Hamilton stated that the Constitution created an executive department to solve one of the many problems. The Articles of Confederation led to problems in the balance of power and responsibility between the states. Articles of Confederation meant that each state was responsible for its own militia. The Constitution guaranteed that they would remain united during wartime. Each state appears independent because the Articles of Confederation gave them the responsibility of printing money. The Constitution united all states under one currency. The constitution was a way for states to unite and be seen together.
Many of the Articles of Confederation’s problems have been solved by the constitution. The federal government and the states share equally their powers, jobs, and responsibilities. The United States can now be seen as a whole, rather than in 13 parts.
